The Concert - Rhyme Flow befriends 'Nuttin But Stringz - Broken Sorrow'

about

I had wrote this before Yourenigma approached me with "On Hold" so you can imagine how funny to me it was that I had written an entire song from Octavia's perspective way before I was asked to write about Vinyl Scratch's. So I guess the circuit is complete. My head canon has always made Octavia the child musician prodigy who could never connect with her peers due to her rigorous training and laser focus on becoming the worlds greatest cellist. So naturally she could connect with another prodigy musician driven by passion, Vinyl. Also YES I know Broken Sorrow's is a Violin song, but you know... it was the beat and the sound I needed to convey Octavia's plight... and it was STRINGY. Sometimes when you're at the very top of your game, the stress from needing to maintain it and the subsequent loneliness you feel because it naturally isolates you from everything else can be overwhelming.

Anyways, I'll be performing in Baltimore this July during BronyCon 2016! I'm excited to see old friends and possibly new fans, so if you're in the area please don't hesitate to say hi.

lyrics

Ever Since I was a young filly, i've really had feelings and affinities
towards musical things, beautiful strings channeled into me.

At 7 I was better than many cellists ahead of me.
It had to be my youth that they were selected instead of me.

Since then I regarded them as my enemies,
And practiced harder than ever to never let them get to me.

Obsessed with being the best, incessantly stressed.
A recipe for instantly getting really depressed.

My skill level was heavily felt,
and my competition was unable to play nearly as well.

But the top is a lonelier spot than once thought.
You're lost with the torturous cost of ones thoughts.

Then you build - an emotional box to block others.
and their talk becomes words that turn to blurred mutters

Then another minute later your elevation is too high.
Thinking it'd be greater if maybe you'd die.

Chorus (1:55)

Play the song like the string is your soul.
Like the bow in your hand's going out of control.

use the power of the cello from the saddle to scroll.
Move the crowd with your notes and devour your role.

You are the essence of the instrument.
Extension of the song as the rhythm it turns intimate.

And burn into it, with a flaming desire.
It's your sonata so play hotter than raw fire.

Verse 2: (2:14)

Wits end, I failed to withstand.
So alone from success, I flail in quicksand.

And I

Can't grasp why happiness is evading me.
Why every friend I have starts jealously hating me.

But then I met her, a veteran of the same game.
A music genius but genre wasn't the same name.

DJ-ing and Turntabling her main thing.
But at the top of the charts, she felt the pain sting.

Crazy and intoxicating
and amazing that this lady could save me by just relating.

And debating for the sake of debating this love/hating
made me wake up. I'm saying those hours of me praying.

Brought a friend, a companion, a fan - A true sister.
Truth is when we tour apart, I do miss her.

But I choose this direction, insist this huge pressure
This Concert I perform with a love, a true pleasure.

Chorus

Play the song like the string is your soul.
Like the bow in your hand's going out of control.

use the power of the cello from the saddle to scroll.
Move the crowd with your notes and devour your role.

You are the essence of the instrument.
Extension of the song as the rhythm it turns intimate.

And burn into it, with a flaming desire.
It's your sonata so play hotter than raw fire.

3:47 (3:08)

Smoke from ther bow as the note ends.
The crowd quiet from the show, spotlight dims.

In the silence, your heart beat.
Your breath quick and your hooves grip tight on the hard seat.

When the lights return the crowd roars.
And they pound floors, in full force, demand more.

And you won't force yourself, hooves are damn sore.
Not to mention you can't - command an encore.

But... what would Scratch do?
Vinyl, I'd ask you.

Exhausted from your set, but the crowd reacts to your actions.
Would you back away, or actually rack up a track and play?

I'd say... the answer is evident.
And damn girl, the fact is I'd end up regrettin it.

But definite, you'd keep the beats on rotation.
And patiently play to the crowds great elation.

So, I lift my bow.
Close my eyes, as my cello cries in my soul

I. Will. Play on till it burns me.
I'm a slave to the music's mercy.
